Overview

The Department provides laboratory-based discipline in Pathology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Specialized Biochemistry and Microbiology services to ophthalmologists, ENT specialists and related professionals by evaluating samples taken from patients to arrive at a diagnostic opinion. We have Fully Equipped Labs at SCEH – Delhi, Mohammadi and Vrindavan, making us the only hospital to have three Ocular and ENT labs in the country.

Who We Are

The department of laboratory services was established in 2008 and has grown in strength in the number of samples processed and variety of tests performed. We have a dynamic team of doctors, skilled technicians, and trained paramedic staff.   The quality standards and protocols are maintained, and we are accredited under the NABH. We also have a system to check our results by validation and association with EQAS. We are a referral lab center for several eye and ENT services in Delhi and neighboring states and process microbiology and pathology samples with accurate results.

Diagnosis & Treatment

Each sample is received, processed and the results documented as per the requirements. We work closely with the clinician to define and refine the tests to have the best possible diagnosis for our patients.

Scope Of Services

Microscopic examination of glass slides of tissues, scrapings, blood, serum, vitreous and aqueous aspirate or fluids derived from the patients is done with a very short turn-around time to enable the clinicians to start the appropriate medication at the earliest. We are able to identify the organism and provide an antibiotic sensitivity report.

Histopathology specimens from within the hospital and referrals from outside clinics are processed and reported. These are also accompanied by a detailed report with microphotographs and clinical pictures to complete each patient’s biopsy report. We process and report on Corneal buttons, Corneal-Scleral Rims, eye and ENT oncology biopsies, Eviscerated Uveal contents and Imprint cytology.

Cytological examination of Fluids like Vitreous, Aqueous Samples, Body Fluids, Fine Needle Aspirations, Bone Marrow Examinations, CSF Cytology are also processed.

Immunological tests, along with Molecular Biology tests including RT – PCR for pathogens like HSV, CMV and TB are routinely done.

We have a panel of over 200 tests which are done with precision and validation. These includes Liver Function Tests, Kidney Function Test, Thyroid Function Test, Cancer Markers and many more as per the requirement.

We specialize in identifying various blood conditions with optimal appropriate tests including Complete Blood Count, Blood Parasite and Dengue Test.

Projects

LiQd Cornea- Supported by Pandorum

The aim of the project is to design a bio-engineered bio-material which can be used as a liquid drop instead of a conventional corneal transplant: the immediate indication for liquid cornea is neurotrophic keratitis, macular to leucomatous corneal scars, keratoconus, corneal perforations, persistent epithelial defects etc.

PED study project - Funded by DST grant

The main objective of the project is to test the expression of KLF4 in persistent corneal epithelial defects (PCED) and correlating with the disease severity and KLF4 knockdown in corneal epithelial cells recapitulate PCED pathology and can be rescued by overexpressing KLF4
