Profile

Dr Shailja Tibrewal is senior surgeon in the department of pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, and Neuro-ophthalmology since 2013. She is also in charge of the Ocular Genetics services. She has performed over 500 simple and complex pediatric cataract surgeries and over 3000 strabismus surgeries. She also provides training to residents and fellows in both clinical and surgical aspects of pediatric ophthalmology. She looks after the pediatric ophthalmology services at Alwar (Rajasthan) center of SCEH and visits thrice a month. Her keen interests are Pediatric Cataract, Complex strabismus, Myopia and Ocular genetic disorders. She completed her graduation from Grant Medical College, Mumbai and post-graduation in Ophthalmology from SMS Medical College, Jaipur. Thereafter she did a long-term fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology, strabismus and Neuro-ophthalmology from L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad. She also received a short-term training in Genetics and Genomics from National Institute of Health, Bethesda, USA. She has over 40 peer-reviewed publications to her credit and is a reviewer for various national and international journals. In 2020 she was awarded the Developing Country Eye Researcher Fellowship travel Grant by Association for research in vision and ophthalmology (ARVO). She is the project director for USAID grant for door-to-door screening of children in Urban slums of Delhi. She is an active member of the Strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology society of India (SPOSI), Delhi Ophthalmological Society (DOS) and All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS). She is a member of the Institutional review board and scientific committee of SCEH. People describe her as a person with ‘an eye for detail’. She is extremely patient and empathetic with her patients.
