Inauguration of Eye care Academy in Vrindavan

𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤 and 𝐃𝐫. 𝐒𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐟’𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐲𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 launch a new 𝐄𝐲𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐕𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐧, 𝐔𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐡. Five years ago, Standard Chartered Bank and Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital came together to launch the Standard Chartered–Shroff’s Eye Care Education Academy in New Delhi – a dedicated space to build the skills of India’s eye care workforce. Since then, the Academy has been strengthening the backbone of eye health in India, from ophthalmologists and optometrists to community ophthalmic paramedics (COPs) and other allied ophthalmic professionals, many of them young women from tier II and III towns. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘩 𝘈𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘺 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘬’𝘴 ‘𝘚𝘦𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘉𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨’ 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘦, second in partnership with SCEH with focus on strengthening Eye Health care capability and Women’s Empowerment. Yesterday, we were delighted to extend this vision to Vrindavan, with the inauguration of a new Standard Chartered–Shroff’s Eye Care Education Academy at our Vrindavan campus. The inauguration was graced by- 𝐌𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐣𝐚 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐫𝐚, Vice Chairperson, Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad (Chief Guest) 𝐃𝐫 𝐔𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐌. CEO, Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital 𝐌𝐬 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐚 𝐁𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐚, Head – Sustainability, India, Standard Chartered Bank. Over the next three years, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐕𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 12,000 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐞𝐲𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐬. Key deliverables include training 70 ophthalmologists, 600 mid-career ophthalmologists, and 500 allied ophthalmic paramedics, with employment opportunities post training for over 70% of the trainees, 50% of which are going to be women. In a country where the shortage of trained eye-care professionals remains a major barrier to eliminating avoidable blindness.
