Who We Are

Established in 1940 as a private practice by Dr KG Mathur, the Mathur Eye Clinic, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh was absorbed by Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital in 2012 when they took over the management of the practice under the aegis of Dr Arun Mathur. While the practice initially continued as a private practice, it was then re-structured to meet the Vision and Mission of Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital.

The hospital continues the legacy of the Mathur family, and the Meerut Eye Clinic- Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital provides quality eye care services to the districts of Meerut, Hapur, Muzaffarnagar, and Bagpath, through the cross-subsidy model of eye care delivery, providing free or highly subsidized eye care services to those who need it the most. As of February 2024, the center has 2 vision centres linked to it, providing primary eye care facilities to its service districts. The center is also in the process of receiving NABH accreditation.

Our Programs

Mission for vision

In the almost two years between June 2015 and March 2017, Mission for Vision and SCEH partnered for Mission Roshni to conduct pediatric school and community screenings in Meerut. The aim was to eradicate avoidable blindness amongst children in the area and enable an inclusive environment for children with irreversible low vision and/or blindness. Through the program, over 89 thousand children were screened, of which 3351 children were given spectacles and 130 were operated upon.

Seva foundation

The Seva Foundation, along with SCEH, due to the success of the first phase has initiated the second phase of Project Drishti in the region, from February 2022 and to February 2023. The program aimed to provide long term eye care to children, expanding on the geographies previously being catered to. Facilities at existing vision centers were also upgraded to create infrastructure to support increased primary eye care delivery.

Cataract Surgery Restores Sangeeta’s Sight

Once a healthy Woman, Mrs. Sangeeta struggled to complete even daily chores now. As her eyesight worsened, she was losing more and more ability to see. Mrs. Sangeeta w/o Dildar Singh, a 59 years old lady, was suffering from cataract for the past 2 years. She resides in Mawana, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Apart from her husband, she has three sons and a daughter in her family. She was only able to complete education till primary level. As a result, she is a Daily wage worker now and with great effort she is able to earn about INR 3000 per month which is not possible anymore given her cataract issues.
Sangeeta’s eyesight started worsening with every passing day. As darkness grew in front of her eyes, she could not recognize people in front of her, except from their voices. Ironically, she grew increasingly dependent on others for completing the smallest of daily tasks. She started accepting this as a part of aging. At a time when all seemed to fade, hope came in the form of a Camp – where she got screened and advised to visit the nearest Vision Centre.

Though Sangeeta had limited information, but she decided to visit Vision Centre. At the Vision Centre, she was counseled by experienced Vision Technician. A thorough check-up revealed that her cataract was mature and needed immediate surgery.

On 21 May 2022, Sangeeta found her vision back at the Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital Meerut. After this surgery, Mrs. Sangeeta’s life has changed drastically. Having regained her sight has ended her misery of depending on others, Sangeeta can earn her livelihood again and live a better quality of life. She can see her family members again.
To summarize, a safe and specialized Cataract Surgery restored her eyesight, her self-confidence and her self-esteem.
