According to the latest global estimates there were around 1.1 billion people living with vision loss in 2020 with around 43 million of them being blind. More than 90 percent of vision loss is either preventable or treatable. United Nations recently adopted its “Vision for Everyone” resolution and noted that half of the world population could be living with a vision impairment by 2050. In the recently conducted National Blindness and Visual Impairment Survey, around 4.8 million people were estimated to be suffering from blindness and around 34 million with visual impairment in India.
