Dr Suma Ganesh is presently Deputy Medical Director, Chairperson and Head of Paediatric ophthalmology and Strabismus at Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye hospital, Delhi.
She has done her MS Ophthalmology from Lokmanya Tilak Medical College Mumbai in 1994, DNB from National board of examinations, Delhi in 1994. She did her fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Manhattan Eye and Ear hospital in 2001 through Marsh Carter Fellowship grant by ORBIS International. She was awarded DR S.D. Athavale award for the best paper in squint at AIOS meeting in 2003. In 2012 she received the prestigious ACOIN award for her work in strabismus in the community.
She has worked in many childhood blindness community projects “Hand in Hand Saving Sight Project”, “Refractive error project” with McDonald and ORBIS, Drishti and MODO project with Seva Foundation and Media friends project with CBM. She is also involved in POLTC project with ORBIS training fellows from Nepal, Bangladesh and Vietnam and with CBM in training fellows in paediatric ophthalmology for India and Nepal. She is involved with ORBIS as mentor for Sandwich technique fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology.
She is the principal Indian investigator for collaborative research project “Project Prakash” with MIT, USA and also working on research collaborative projects on CVI with SMITH Kettlewell Research Foundation, USA. She is also involved with MDVI project with Perkins international.
She has presented in many national and international conferences and also conducted many instruction courses nationally and internationally. She has many publications to her credit in peer reviewed scientific journals and has till date 411 citations to her credit. She is member of All India ophthalmic society, International Strabismological Society and World Society of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. She has been member of SCEH ethics committee since last 8 years and was member of Institutional review board committee.
