Dr. Manisha Acharya is a practicing ophthalmologist hailing from Delhi. She received her MS degree (2003) from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh following which she completed her fellowship at Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital. She has also been trained at– Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, Florida and LVPEI, Hyderabad. She is a DNB (Diplomate of National Board), and is currently associated with SCEH as Senior Consultant, Department of Cornea and Refractive Surgery. She also specializes as Anterior Segment surgeon.
Apart from being a proficient corneal surgeon for more than a decade and a half, Dr Acharya is the Medical Director of the Eye Bank of Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital which is one of the rapidly growing Eye Bank in North India. Her passion and contribution to Indian eye banking has brought her laurels both nationally and internationally. She is the proud recipient of BMJ South Asia Healthcare Award 2016 as Quality team of the year for “Improvement in Eye Bank Tissue utilisation through Quality Assurance Initiatives”.
She has several publications to her credit, and her papers on quality and training in Eye Banking are well- acknowledged around the globe. She has also authored the book, Eye Bank Recovery Technique, released by Eye Bank Association of India. The book is first of its kind comprehensive one for eye bankers as a guide to cornea recovery in general and in-situ corneosceleral rim excision, in particular. While eye is her passion, Dr Acharya is fascinated by travel and music interests her, to strike a balance.
