Dr Umang Mathur is the Executive Director at Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital (SCEH) in New Delhi. Following his residency in ophthalmology, he completed his fellowship in cornea and anterior segment at the LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad. Dr Mathur has been associated with SCEH since 1998 and has contributed to improving and implementing quality eye care systems for the hospital. He specializes in cornea, cataract and LASIK surgery practices, and has performed more than 20,000 surgeries to help people regain their vision, and recover from eye conditions ranging from complex, complicated to simple. He also performed cataract surgery on the former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
Besides being an accomplished eye surgeon, Dr Mathur has mentored more than 250 long-term and short-term fellows in cornea, anterior segment pathology and cataract surgery. He is an ardent supporter of community ophthalmology, development of human resources for eye care, both clinical as well as paramedic. To his credit, is the establishment of Eye Care Academy at SCEH, with support from Standard Chartered Bank.
He also founded the Eye Bank at SCEH, and with the support of his team in the past decade and a half, the Eye Bank at SCEH is today among the leading eye banks in North India.
Dr Mathur’s contribution to various peer-reviewed journals, presentation and representation at national as well as international ophthalmology events/conferences is a significant one in the space of ophthalmology.
