Dr Shalinder Sabherwal is a specialist in Community Ophthalmology and Health Research. He is an alumni of AIIMS for MD and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. With over two decades of experience, Dr Sabherwal has been involved in comprehensive ophthalmology practice with focus on cataract and refractive surgery. Dr Sabherwal has been associated with Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital since 2017, and apart from clinical work, he is involved in community medicine, secondary and vision centres for their expansion, quality control as well as monitoring. A member of Scientific Committee, he is also involved in teaching research methodology to fellows. With keen interest in Public Health, Dr Sabherwal has stated a journal club and public health classes at SCEH.
In 2020, he was awarded by Delhi Government for the efforts made to include Retinopathy of Prematurity in the neonatal screening programme. In 2018, he received the award for Best Paper in Emerging Disease Category at Vision 2020 India Conference. In 2017, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine awarded him with the Hooper’s Prize for best dissertation in eye care.
He has represented at various national and international level conferences and seminars, like National Symposium of SIAM (Society of Indian Medicine Manufacturers) on Road Safety; Commonwealth Eye Health Consortium in London, Alumni Workshop at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Vision 2020 India Conference in 2018 and 2019, DOS (Delhi Ophthalmological Society).
In 2019, he was invited as a mentor for the online course conducted by LSHTM, namely Global blindness: planning and managing eye care services, on Future-learn platform. He is a long distance runner and has participated in marathons in Delhi.
